Why are Mini Excavators Widely Used?

There are different types of excavator in the market today. The various kinds of excavators range in terms of size, capabilities and challenges of using them. However, the visual distinction is in size. Many users consider the requirements of the job and the working conditions in deciding what type of excavator to use. Examples of different types of excavators are the crawler excavator, the wheeled excavator, suction excavators, long reach excavators, hydraulic shovels, dragline excavators and the skid steers. Each of these excavators is suitable for different terrains and different functions.

After deciding what type of excavator one needs for their respective task, the next decision is to choose the size. It is crucial to consider the worksite layout, terrain, project requirement, transportation and storage when determining the size of the excavator. Excavators come in three primary class sizes for rental – the large excavators, the standard excavators and the mini excavator hire options.

Excavators that weigh more the 45 metric tons are the large excavators. They are suitable for heavy-duty jobs and large-scale projects. Standard excavators, on the other hand, weigh between seven and 45 metric tons. They are sometimes sub-categorized into small standard excavators that weigh between 7 and 10 tons and the medium size excavators that are heavier than 10 tons but lighter than 45 metric tons. They are the most used excavators in commercial construction projects. Compared to the heavy excavators, standard excavators are easy to maneuver. Finally, the mini excavators also called the compact excavators are the smallest of the three, weighing less than 7 tons. They are convenient for small spaces and are consequently, commonly used in tight spaces. Mini excavators are the widely used excavator class size.

The severe challenge of transportation and storage of the large and standard excavators are the first reason why mini excavators are widely used instead. Additionally, the standard and heavy excavators are more likely to damage soft soil or finished sites. They are challenging to operate in tighter spaces due to the large size and reach of their tail swing.

Most people will choose the option of a mini excavator if it can productively execute a particular project. The lighter weight of the mini excavator makes it easier to transport between sites. Thus, it requires less fuel compared to the other sizes. Moreover, mini excavators are built with a narrower undercarriage that can be further compacted for the operator to pass through tighter spaces like gates. The reduced tail-swing and in some a complete zero tail-swing additionally enables a compact excavator to make tight turns and move through cramped passages. When there is a chance that the excavator may collide with objects while on-site or that the site has pipes or gas line underground, it is essential to use a mini excavator. Compact excavators are less likely to tear up the ground or damage finished sites due to their lighter weight. They can therefore operate seamlessly on soft terrain. Taking into account these benefits, when it comes to excavator hire choices, it follows that mini excavators are the most widely used of the different excavator sizes.
